Ah…Christmas. The most magical time of the year. With everyone getting gifts for their loved ones and wrapping them with festive wrapping paper of all colours, one can’t help but start thinking about all the ways to decorate their own living space.
There’s truly is no place like home, especially around Christmas. But decorating your home during this season, may seem like a lot of work. So, to make things a little easier for you, we have prepared a list of tips and pointers for how to decorate your home for Christmas.
First things first, you need to decide on the colour palette you will be utilising. As red, green, gold and silver remain the most popular ones, this year we have seen a rise of some unorthodox colours, like black, for instance. If you are looking to experiment this year and go for black, have in mind to mix glossy and glittered black ornaments in order for them to reflect the light, so that they don’t get lost in the green Christmas tree. Unless your tree isn’t green (we will discuss the Christmas trees later in the blog).
We have decided on a more traditional colour scheme, as you can see in the picture below, where the red, green and gold are the most dominant colours. And our lovely blue chair makes everything just pop in our apartment. And of course, the room wouldn’t be complete without a reindeer in the corner.
The centerpiece of your Christmas décor should always be her majesty the Christmas tree. No matter if you prefer a small or a big tree, but the real dilemma occurs while making a decision whether you want a real Christmas tree or a faux one. There are benefits to both. There is something about the fresh pine scent filling the living room on a Christmas morning and the thrill of going to the market and picking the perfect tree, or better yet (depending on where you live) going to the woods and finding one yourself.
But then, after the Christmas is over, you are left with pine needles everywhere. And we mean everywhere. That’s one of the reasons you may choose a faux Christmas tree. On the other hand, with the faux one, you can choose whichever colour you like green, white, pink, yellow, etc. And if you do want black ornaments this year, we suggest you go for a white one and have not only a white Christmas, but a black one as well.
This year, we have chosen a green faux Christmas tree, for a traditional look.
The most magical part of Christmas décor. The lights are essential for that Christmas Winter Wonderland everyone is so fond of. With the light up, it’s as if the Christmas tree turns into some kind of Aurora Borealis we are all mesmerised by.
When it comes to decorating the tree, always put the lights up first, as then you will know which decoration can reflect the light the best at which spot. You can go for a single colour of your lights, where people mostly opt for yellow, but you can go crazy and make your tree into a magical rainbow and watch the beautiful light show with your family.
But what about the exterior of the house? Those who live in houses can really play with decorations as they can decorate their driveway and their whole garden; from decorating any kind of a tree they may have, or placing a big Santa Claus with slays pulled by reindeer, whatever comes to your mind.
But for those who live in the apartment – what can they do for their exterior? One answer – windows. If you live in a building, the best way for someone to know that the Christmas spirit is a big part of your family, decorate the windows with beautiful Christmas lights. You can do so by taping them with a se through duck- tape to the window, or placing a big tree right behind it. Also, you can always decorate your front door with a nice wrath and lights, so that people feel your Christmas spirit when they are entering your home.
